NeuStar - more known by the gTLD .biz but also a .US operator- since more than a year it announced that the "kids.us" sub-category would be active on May,23. Remember that President George Bush had wanted to make a reserved place in Internet, where young kids until 13 years could sail without concern about improper contents. The objective was laudable, but the strategy was less clear. A "kids" gTLD that had been considered but then was rejected and the ICANN which didn’t want to reopen so fast the gTLD dossier- for saying this fairly good, and it showed less desires of doing this for a so sensitive dossier- But finally, they will use the American ccTLD services. Since the SLD character of acting is still unknown, our reports say us that NeuStar could pronounce on the matter the next days. It will be reflected, for sure, in our next editions!
